COCA-COLA AMATIL PROMOTES POSITIVE CHANGES AND BUSINESS IMPROVEMENT OPPORTUNITIES
Coca-Cola Amatil (CCA) is one of the largest bottlers of non-alcoholic beverages in the Asia-Pacific region and one of the five major Coca-Cola bottlers in the world. CCA’s diversified food and beverage portfolio includes popular Coca-Cola trademark products such as Coca-Cola, Diet Coke, Coca-Cola Zero, Fanta, Sprite and Powerade. The organization has 15,000 employees across six countries – Australia, New Zealand, Indonesia, Fiji, Papua New Guinea and Samoa – and reported net profit for the fiscal year ending 2012 was over $550m.
“It was one of the catalysts which lead to behavioral changes.”
Ray Armstrong, Group Manager, Security and Fraud Control
CCA identified two opportunities that could improve fraud prevention and controls; namely, the need to set an organizational tone of integrity and applying data analytics to business areas that provided instantaneous data. As Ray Armstrong, Group Manager of Security and Fraud Control described, “We had an anti-fraud summit which identified the need to monitor some of our finance systems – mainly purchasing cards, accounts payable and payroll.”
The organization also had large volumes of transactional data that needed to be monitored, to obtain insights in a timely manner.
CCA sought a solution that was able to automate the analysis of 100% of their transactions and provide workflow management to track any anomalies that may occur. Therefore, CaseWare™ Monitor was chosen to execute the continuous monitoring of their transactions. CCA uses CaseWare™ Monitor to identify anomalies and allocate them to key personnel for action. The solution also provides intelligence on the root causes of anomalies; this can be used to improve the business environment and foster employee behavior that is more conducive to their fraud prevention culture.
By using CaseWare™ Monitor for the automated monitoring of their employees’ purchasing card activities, the results were astounding. “We implemented around 9 months ago, and as of two months ago our overall credit card expense has been down significantly,” said Ray Armstrong. CaseWare™ Monitor assisted in delivering a change in culture. “It was one of the catalysts for the policies and new procedures which ultimately lead to the behavioral changes we needed to implement.”
